Lose Weight For A Cause!

Great news about the weight loss war! We will now be donating part of the charity proceeds to the imPOSSIBLE DREAM.

The imPOSSIBLE DREAM, inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to granting dreams to chronically-ill children of Rhode Island. The organization exists to grant the "dream" a child only fantasizes about and which the family could not possibly provide financially. "Dreams" should not be impossible to a child who is already limited by a physical challenge or an emotional barrier. If it is within our power and abilities, we will turn these impossible dreams into possible dreams

The imPOSSIBLE DREAM, inc. is also the host of an unique playground, the John D. Florio Memorial Park. This park was built in 1990 for both the challenged and able-bodied child. A level playing field was built so the child with a physical limitation or mental disability could play along side an able-bodied friend. There should be no segregation in a child's play time.

Dreams already fulfilled during our 20-year existence include:

  • trips to Disney World and other amusement parks

  • home spas for therapy

  • computers equipped with technologies made specific to the child's needs

  • special-designed recreational toys, strollers and wheelchairs

  • personal meetings with celebrities

  • wheelchair lifts for vans, air conditioners, swing sets

  • medical equipment

  • birthday parties

  • special occasions such as to be a "policeman for a day"

  • home adaptations to make a child's environment more functional

So sign up today for the Weight Loss War and help a child in need.

Call 401-489-0551 or email me at tcambio@goprecisionfitness.com

The cost is only $35 and $10 goes directly to the children.

Weight Loss War Q & A

Some common Questions & Answers:

Q: Do I have to get my 1st weight in down in Westerly?

A: No, you can register with your coach and get an alternative weigh-in date and time. The 1st weigh-in is at the Ocean Community YMCA (Westerly) any time from 8 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Try to get there as early as you can as parking will be tough later in the morning due to a swim meet. If you are unable to make that weigh-in...don't stress we will get you an alternative time and date.

***You can join in oue weight loss challenge anytime.

Q: Why the YMCA Saturday weigh-in then?

A: MORE TIME TO LOSE WEIGHT AND WIN CASH! You will register and pay (if you have not already done so), get your before photo, and your beginning weight. We will have someone there to answer all of your questions. Weigh-ins will be private and confidential. This should be a quick in and out situation. NO CLASS! It just sets the tone.

Promotion: If you send in 3 people to join the Weight loss War that your $35 registration fee is paid for!! Plus, for every person that you send in to sign up, you will get an extra raffle ticket for our giveaways on the final weigh-in day (Saturday morning April 4th!).

Q: What other prizes are there at the final weigh-in?

A: Prizes include a computer valued at over $1000!!!!, an ipod, a Nintendo DS, and many gift certificates from local business and restaruants!! Everyone has a chance to win something and for every person you send in to join you will get an extra raffle ticket. We want to raise as much as we can for the Reachout to Youth Program and the imPOSSIBLE DREAM!!

Q: Do I have to attend the last meeting on April 4th in Westerly?

A: YES - You will have a choice of many days and times for your weekly weigh-ins and nutrition class but be sure to clear your morning for Saturday April 4th for the final weigh-in, the raffle drawings, and of course the pay out to the top 3 people with the most weight loss percentage!

If you have any questions or have another person joining you, please let me know. Thanks and I'll see you on Saturday morning at the YMCA!

New Year's Resolution Trap

New Year's day...it never fails to evoke feelings of hope and renewal, but is it really a trap?

You've been handed a proverbial clean slate - another chance to shrug off your bad habits and reach for your dreams.

In an attempt to bottle that New Year's vigor, you'll make a few New Year's Resolutions. But before you put pen to paper, you ought to know this:

It has been reported that 92 % of all New Year's Resolutions end in failure.

That means that less than 1 out of every 10 people will successful accomplish their resolutions in 2009.

Ouch - those statistics are brutal. Who in their right mind would take the time to make resolutions when failure is that imminent?

As your trusted source for fitness advice, I'd like to coach you though this sticky situation. Yes, most people fail to achieve their New Year's Resolutions. However, I am going to clue you in on what the 92% do wrong and teach you what the 8% who succeed do right.

First up, the 92% who failed. These well meaning folks shared a common mistake that put the nail in their coffin before they'd even begun.

They bit off more than they could chew.

In all the excitement of becoming a better person and changing their life in the New Year they made the crucial mistake of committing to do too much. But reality set in, a few weeks or even days into their reformed life, and they gave up.

The 92% gave themselves an easy way out. They approached their resolution with an 'all or nothing' attitude. Once the 'all' became too tough they opted for 'nothing'. And just like that another resolution ended in failure - end of story.

Now let's examine the 8% who succeed with their resolutions year after year. The key to their success is quite simple (you may have even guessed it by now).

They set realistic goals.

I'll repeat that... they set REALISTIC goals.

• Instead of resolving to lose 50 pounds by June, they commit to exercise 3-4 times each week.

• Instead of resolving to give up all carbs, they commit to bring healthy snacks to work instead eating from the vending machine.

• Instead of resolving to drop 3 sizes in 3 months, they commit to losing 1 pound each week until they reach their desired size.

• Instead of resolving to never eat out again, they commit to eating healthy all week and rewarding themselves with one meal out on the weekends.

Did you see the difference?

If you want your resolution to stick then think of something simple and realistic. Sure, it certainly won't sound as cool as the resolutions that the 92% make - but they aren't going to keep theirs anyway.

Remember that the whole point of making a New Year's Resolution is to become a healthier, happier and more successful person. Small changes done consistently will make a big difference.

My Interview in RI Monthly Magazine

After flipping my 200 lb tractor tire up a hill first, then holding it for an hour or so, I was actually sore! Photo shoots are kind of fun in the beginning, then it just seems like you keep going and going and going with more pictures. So yes, the tire got very heavy!

All in all it was fun. I also had the privilege of being interviewed with RI Monthly Magazine and I am featured in the January 2009 "Get Fit" issue. You can view the article at:

or just pick up your own copy in RI stores.
