It may be white, but when it comes to your body and its effect on it, it has the darkest heart possible.
White sugar is arguably the worst food for your body ‒ it has zero nutrition and worse, it causes your immune system to perform under par. And it’s not just plain white sugar that’s the only villain of this piece ‒ most processed foods are made with sugar; bread, mayonnaise, ready to eat meals, breakfast cereal, peanut butter, and many others are rich in refined sugar.
So whenever you eat any of these and other foods, you’re eating sugar. This sweetener is completely processed and devoid of any natural vitamins or minerals, which means that your body uses its store of nutrients to metabolize sugar which is certainly not a good thing. And if you’re still not convinced and want to know in much more detail about the negative effects of white sugar, read on:
• It makes your immune system weaker:Your white blood cells require Vitamin C in order to destroy germs that cause disease, and since sugar and Vitamin C have the same molecular structure, they both compete to enter your cells. So when there is more sugar in your bloodstream than Vitamin C, the sugar molecules crowd out the healthier Vitamin C and your immune system loses its efficiency. Sugar prevents Vitamin C from being absorbed by your white blood cells. So the less sugar you eat, the healthier you are.
• It causes your blood glucose levels to fluctuate:When you eat sugar and sweet foods, your blood sugar increases. This sends signals to your pancreas to produce more insulin to regulate this level, and the subsequent cycle of highs and lows place undue stress on your pancreas and other organs. Besides, when your insulin levels are high, your growth hormones are suppressed, and this again affects your immune system. So you can see how sugar turns out to be a real villain for your immune system.
• It causes obesity:Sugar and its related products cause you to gain weight, and with obesity comes a host of related problems. In fact, you’re at risk for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and even some forms of cancer when you eat sugar. Besides this, when you’re overweight, you find it hard to move around; you have less energy and motivation to do things and go places; and you feel insecure and lack the confidence to be all that you can.
• It causes tooth decay:There’s a reason why your mom wouldn’t allow you to eat more than one candy bar, and it’s because sugar can affect your teeth in the worst way possible. It leaves behind sticky residue when you fail to brush your teeth after eating chocolate, and disease causing bacteria feast on this and bring on tooth decay. It has also been proved that dental issues could cause heart disease as well, so that’s a double whammy.
• It prevents absorption of nutrients:As if it were not enough that sugar causes so much damage, it also prevents nutrients from being absorbed into your body. Elements like phosphorous, chromium, calcium, folic acid and magnesium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin B12 are prevented from entering your blood stream and your cells when you eat too much sugar.
Besides these obvious ills, sugar also causes your skin to age faster than normal; it reduces your energy levels and makes you feel lethargic, and it causes stress, mood swings and hormonal imbalances. So if you want your health to be white, stay away from white sugar.
